PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - California Medical Detachment officials have projected plans for the seasonal and H1N1 vaccination program.
Seasonal flu vaccine
The remaining supplies consist only of Seasonal Flu Mist, the intranasal spray, which is only for adults 49 years of age and younger.
All pediatric patients are encouraged to continue to be seen through the Pediatric Clinic for vaccination or through their civilian health-care provider.
CALMED Immunization Clinic staff has begun vaccinating with the remaining stock on hand any category beneficiary, including Department of the Army civilians, 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will continue until the supply is exhausted. Vaccination is on a walk-in basis, although it is recommended that people call the clinic at (831) 242-6820 to ensure there are doses left.
H1N1 Vaccine
CALMED has received limited doses from the State of California, intended for non-uniformed beneficiaries. As per the recommendation of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the following groups will be targeted initially:
Aca,!AcPregnant women
Aca,!AcPeople who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
Aca,!AcHealth-care and emergency medical services personnel with direct patient contact
Aca,!AcChildren 6 months of age through 4 years of age, and
Aca,!AcChildren 5 through 18 years of age who have high risk medical conditions who are at risk of influenza-related complications.
CALMED Health and Pediatric Clinic has begun targeting these groups with the current supply of vaccine on hand. Once the demand for vaccine for these target groups has been met, vaccination of all individuals will commence as supplies are received.
Non-uniform beneficiaries are encouraged to seek vaccination through their civilian health-care providers and not wait on the availability of the vaccine through the military treatment facility, because doses may be exhausted quickly.
Currently, the DOD 2009 H1N1 Vaccine for Uniformed personnel has not been received by the CALMED Health Clinic. Upon receipt of the vaccine, immediate coordination for vaccination of service members will begin.
