FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- Staff Sgt. Lisa Soto said she has had the pleasure of working with some great leaders, and those relationships have motivated her as a Soldier.
During her first assignment, Soto was stationed in Mannheim, Germany. There, she met three senior leaders who would help her mature as a Soldier.
"Master Sgt. Duveau, CW4 Butler and CW4 Comer were all at my first duty station in Mannheim, Germany," she said. "I was influenced and motivated by the three. I was taught how to drive for the first time. I was shown that there were still great leaders."
And here at Fort Jackson, Soto said, the same can be said for her colleagues Cheryl Goodson, a supply management specialist, and Sgt. 1st Class Vashana Chambers.
"They always put Soldiers first. Soldiers within the battalion shared a love as well as respect for them. They (do) their jobs with confidence and (are) the subject-matter experts," she said.
Following her time in Germany and prior to coming to Fort Jackson, Soto was also assigned to Fort Lee, Va. In 2004 and 2005, she deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, for six months and to Talil, Iraq, for six months.
Butler said she hopes to one day become a warrant officer.
"I love my field of work, and (I) feel that I can be an addition to any unit as a property book officer," she said.
As for junior enlisted Soldiers who are considering their next steps in their military careers, Soto says: "... Take life one day at a time, but think of time beyond today. ... Set goals and strive for them."
