KABUL, Afghanistan - Servicemembers of Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan met with Secretary of the Army Pete Geren during his tour of Afghanistan and the Middle East, Sept. 15.

Geren's visit served as a fact-finding tour to ascertain the needs of Army personnel while deployed in Afghanistan. During his visit to Camp Eggers, Geren met with Army officers, enlisted personnel and with Maj. Gen. Robert W. Cone, CSTC-A commanding general.

During his visit with service members, Geren displayed a keen interest in how they felt about their pre-deployment training, family issues and with living and working conditions, while serving in theater.

Geren, a former U.S. Congressman representing Texas' 12th Congressional district, pressed the service members for their perceptions of progress being made in Afghanistan.

Geren asked the servicemembers what concerns they have about redeployment. He told them that many challenges remain when re-deploying, but they will not go unaddressed.

Before departing, Geren thanked each of the Camp Eggers' personnel for their service, reminding them their families and country are proud of the work they are doing in Afghanistan.
